Can you take a rental car out of the State?

If you’re renting a car in the Goa, it’s quite likely that you’ll want to see as much of what Goa car rental offers. It’s a vast state so whilst an east to west Goa (or vice versa) road trip might be a bridge too far, there are plenty of east coast and west coast ready-made road trips in waiting. Some of these involve crossing from one state to another and we’re often asked if it’s ok to take a rental car out of the state or not? The simple answer is yes you can take it, we’ve yet to come across a case where a rental agent has restricted out of the state travel.

Car rental experience in Goa

Unlike taking a Goa car rental from Goa to Delhi which is very restricted or even prohibited by some agents, taking a rental car out of state is more like taking a rental car to Mumbai which is widely accepted. Our only advice is that you need to confirm your intentions with the rental agent or rental service provider when you pick up the car rental goa just to ensure there are no extra documents required to take the rental car out of the state. You’ll also want to check India speed limits by states as these can vary from as little as 55mph in Goa to 85mph in Mumbai, although it’s unlikely you’ll cross between them. Popular state borders like Goa to Mumbai see speed limits vary from 70 to 75mph so just watch your speed and know the limits as patrols are common around state border crossings and speeding charges are readily dished. Can you take a rental from Goa to Mumbai?

Rental Car from Goa to Bangalore

Whilst doable in a single day, it’s a long trip at a little under 400 miles depending on what route you take, however one thing is for sure, you’ll leave Goa and take the rental car into Mumbai. The most direct route is The Karwar Route. If you are traveling to South Goa, the Karwar Route is a good one to try. It will take you approximately 12 hours across 620 kilometers via NH 48 and then NH 66.

Rental Car from Goa to Kerala

Another very popular route and it will take 4 hours on a less traffic day. The 500-mile trip will see you cross the Goa to Kerala by Road: National Highway 17 (NH17) running along the west coast of India connects Mumbai with Cochin via Goa.

Are there border crossings?

No, you will not find any hard border crossings, rather just state border signs welcoming you to your next state/destination.

Can you return a rental car to another state?

Again, this is rarely a problem, however, you are likely to pay one side fee only. Whilst it might be included in the overall rental fee (we’ll advise if it isn’t), returning a Goa car rental to a different location in India within the same state often carries no additional payment, if it’s returned to a different state you’re likely to incur the fee. For instance, picking up in Goa and dropping off in Mumbai (vice-versa) is likely to cost around Rs 10000 one-way fee.
